Having debuted on the legendary music audition TV program called "IKATEN", Ichiban Ujigami started out and continues to be the vocalist and leader of the band "KABUKI-ROCKS," (whom they debuted with vivid impact by their first price from that). He then became the "face" of TBS. "TOKIO" which has been remade under the title of "O・EDO." which as an album became smash hit.
Ujigami's strong individuality brought about a social TREND to the music industry. Afterwards ,he began to start his own solo career. To date, he not only has been be an artist, but an also an actor, a lyricist, a novelist and a producer.
■A professional of Japanese Edo calture
As a scholar of Comparative Culture between Edo Japan and Modern Japanese culture, Ujigami has devotingly made a study to traditional handicrafts and traditional performing arts and popular public entertainment: Kabuki; Noh, "Matsuri" Festivals; Sumo- wrestling,etc. As his artistic persona was inspired from the Edo era, his knowledge of the culture, customs, and mass entertainment in the Edo era makes us open our eyes to the fact that he bridges art and reality, and enthralls us as we watch him in performance.
■Master of “Nichibu”
Having a diploma in Japanese traditional dance“Nichibu”, he studied under the tutelage of his mother, who is also a master of the Otoha school of “Nichibu”. From the age of five, he began his formal training in “Nichibu”from his mother. By his high school year's, hedeveloped a strong affinity to the Rock & Roll scene.

In 1990 Kabuki-Rocks debuted with the song called "O・EDO." As their name suggests, the band’s visual style is largely influenced from the traditional stage make-up and costumes of the Kabuki.Always sent all of their album in a higher rank of the hit chart, and they won many music awards. In 2002, original members Hidemaro Aoki(Guitar) and Seishiro Otsuki (Guitar) returned to the band. And new drummer, Kaori became a new member to Kabuki Rocks.
In 2003, Kabuki Rocks came back to the spotlight of the Entertainment business!!! |
